Nostalgia
If there’s one dish that feels like a warm hug it has to be my childhood favourite, my mum’s ‘varanfal’. Having originated in Gujrat, the simple home food is called as ‘Dal – Dhokli’ in the state, and is a Sunday meal in most traditional gujarati households. A perfect combination of whole wheat roti bits simmered in khatti meethi dal, usually classified as a sumptuous one - dish meal. With its various names in the different regions, it is also called daalfal in Rajasthan, varanfal or chakulya in Maharashtra and mutkule in Madhya Pradesh. This preparation is an ideal comfort food for everyone as it combines goodness of both roti and dal into one.
